As part of Brisbane’s transformative green infrastructure strategy, the Kangaroo Point Bridge stands as a bold statement of connectivity and design. Fabritecture was engaged to deliver the complete architectural metalworks package, including the design, fabrication, supply, and installation of 14 distinct scopes. Our work forms a key part of the bridge’s architectural identity, blending performance, aesthetics, and durability in a high-profile public setting.
Working over an active marine transit lane, our installation was tightly choreographed alongside ongoing bridge construction. Each element was delivered just-in-time as site survey data became available, ensuring precision and seamless integration. The project demanded full compliance with Main Roads Technical Specifications (MRTS), introducing rigorous QA and traceability standards beyond typical Australian codes. Custom powder coat finishes were developed specifically to meet 25-year durability requirements.
A standout moment was the cladding of the bridge’s 100-metre mast head. Assembled horizontally at the Port of Brisbane, we installed over 50% of the perforated aluminium cladding before the mast was rotated upright using SPMTs and floated down the Brisbane River on a barge. This was timed with low tide to safely pass beneath the Story Bridge, before being lifted into final position by Australia’s largest tower crane. Final cladding works were completed using a custom-engineered davit arm platform.
Throughout the process, Fabritecture worked closely with the client, consultants, and trades to resolve detailing challenges and ensure long-term performance. The project unfolded over a 12-month procurement phase and a 14-month site program, combining local and international fabrication, direct offshore inspections, and tight delivery timelines — all completed in time for handover to the City of Brisbane.
