Fabritecture was engaged to design and construct an ETFE canopy over the grandstand
at North Sydney Olympic Pool as part of the site’s major redevelopment.
The canopy comprises 16 three-layer ETFE cushions, each approximately 5.6 metres in length and up to 3 metres wide, arranged to form a lightweight, weather-protective covering above the spectator seating area. The system delivers high light transmission while providing effective shelter from wind and rain, enhancing comfort without compromising the open-air experience of the pool.
Fabritecture’s scope also included the construction of a lightweight PVC membrane roof over the gelato bar on the eastern side of the building, contributing to a cohesive and functional public-facing environment.
