Fabritecture contributed to the design detailing and specialist supply of ETFE systems for a series of iconic canopies at the new Kai Tak Sports Park — one of Hong Kong’s most ambitious and future-forward sporting destinations.
Working closely with lead architect Populous and the incredible team at Maffeis Engineering, Fabritecture provided detailed design consultation and safe installation methodology—ensuring seamless system integration within a high-performance, typhoon-resilient structure.
The primary scope included the supply of five large-scale steel/ETFE canopies using double-layer ETFE cushions manufactured by Fabric8, fabricated from Nowofol 250μm film with DM 4:65 fritting for solar control. The system incorporates stainless steel cable reinforcement from Arcus, air systems from Elnic, hoses and valves from Konstruct, ducting from Octovent, and high-performance gaskets and fixings from PPSHK.
The result is a series of lightweight yet robust tensile structures that showcase material efficiency, architectural clarity, and environmental responsiveness — a defining feature in the evolving Kai Tak urban landscape.
