Holocaust Museum LA

Fabritecture USA partnered with Belzberg Architects (now BA Collective) to deliver a striking PTFE canopy structure for the Holocaust Museum LA, working alongside general contractor Del Amo Construction. The design pairs a sweeping top fabric form with a matching underside layer, creating a sculptural roof that anchors the museum’s public plaza.

Working with structural analysis support from our engineering partner, Wade Design Engineers, Fabritecture provided full design, supply, fabrication, delivery and installation services. Covering 868 m² | 9,343 ft² of plan area across 1,618.8 m² | 17,423 ft² of fabric, the structure uses Chukoh Skytop FGT600 PTFE membrane in white, tensioned across custom Fabritecture M12XS aluminum extrusions.

Design Features

17-panel fabric system:
The canopy is built from 17 individually patterned PTFE panels, 8 forming the top surface and 9 forming the underside, each fitted to the structure’s complex, curving geometry.

Rope access installation:
Several panels sat in locations standard access equipment could not reach. Fabritecture’s IRATA-certified rope access technicians installed these panels directly, working at height across challenging angles.

Keder edge and extrusion attachment:
Panels were tensioned into place using a keder edge system fitted to Fabritecture’s M12XS aluminum extrusions, with EPDM gaskets and aluminum flashings completing the weatherproof envelope.

Crane offload and rooftop staging:
Given the scale and geometry of the structure, panels were craned into position and staged on the rooftop ahead of sequential, panel-by-panel installation.

Project Impact

The completed canopy gives the Holocaust Museum LA a distinctive architectural presence, sheltering the plaza below while standing up to the demands of a highly visible public site. The project’s complex curvature and difficult-access panel locations made it one of the more technically demanding installations completed by the Fabritecture USA team.
