Churchill Downs Paddock

Fabritecture delivered a custom PTFE tensile canopy as the central architectural feature of the paddock redevelopment at Churchill Downs Racetrack, creating a refined, weather-protected environment for spectators within one of the world’s most iconic equestrian venues.

Project Scope

The project included the supply, delivery, and installation of a high-performance PTFE membrane canopy supported by a steel substructure, forming the main covered paddock hospitality space.

With a total area of 5,257.5 ft² (≈488 m²), the canopy provides year-round protection while maintaining openness, daylight, and visibility across the paddock experience zone.

Design & Experience Highlights

Signature architectural centerpiece
Positioned as the focal element of the redevelopment, the canopy defines the paddock gathering space while enhancing the venue’s visual identity.

Light-filled, open-air comfort
The PTFE membrane allows soft daylight to filter through while shielding guests from sun and weather, ideal for long event days and premium hospitality.

Integrated with guest amenities
The structure seamlessly supports dining, social, and viewing experiences overlooking the paddock, reinforcing Churchill Downs’ elevated visitor environment.

Project Impact

The completed canopy transforms the paddock into a comfortable, high-end destination within the racetrack, improving usability across events and seasons.

By combining lightweight architecture with performance-driven materials, Fabritecture helped deliver a space that balances protection, elegance, and long-term durability at one of sport’s most prestigious venues.
