Canopy at LAX Station

Fabritecture USA designed and constructed a steel and PTFE-clad canopy for a walkway at Los Angeles International Airport’s train station, working alongside HDR Architectural on the project. The canopy uses PTFE-coated fiberglass to deliver a durable, lightweight cover suited to one of the busiest transit hubs in the US.

Covering 400 sqft | 37 m², the structure combines steel framing with a tensioned fabric skin, built to withstand constant foot traffic and exposure at a high-profile public location.

Design Features

Steel and PTFE integration:
The canopy pairs a custom steel frame with a PTFE-coated fiberglass membrane, giving the structure long-term durability alongside a light, modern profile.

PTFE-coated fiberglass (Chukoh FGT-800):
This fabric was selected for its strength and weather resistance, well suited to the demands of a high-traffic transit environment.

Design and construct delivery:
Fabritecture managed design, supply, and installation of the full steel and PTFE clad structure, delivering a complete solution from concept through to build.

Project Impact

The canopy provides a durable, weather-resistant cover for the walkway at LAX’s train station, supporting the daily movement of travelers through the airport. Its lightweight construction and clean profile complement the surrounding transit infrastructure while standing up to constant use.
