Brisbane Grammar STEAM Building

Fabritecture was engaged for the design, fabrication, and installation of a PTFE mesh fabric façade and a series of stainless steel mesh pods as part of Brisbane Grammar School’s landmark STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) precinct in Spring Hill, QLD.

The project scope included a west-facing PTFE façade featuring the school’s emblem, integrated with architectural shading elements to manage solar exposure, and four suspended mesh pods designed to create dynamic, collaborative spaces within the atrium.

Collaborating with Wilson Architects and Wade Engineering, Fabritecture delivered lightweight, durable solutions that complement the precinct’s contemporary aesthetic while meeting the strict tolerances of this high-profile educational project.

Lightweight performance: PTFE mesh (FGB‑412‑28) was selected for its translucency, fire performance, and ability to reduce thermal load, achieving both functional and aesthetic goals.

Complex geometry realised: Stainless steel mesh pods were fabricated off-site and precisely installed in a congested atrium environment using innovative fixing and patterning methods to ensure seamless alignment.

Collaborative delivery: Close coordination with the architect and contractor enabled efficient installation despite logistical challenges, maintaining program timelines for the operational school campus.
