2020 has been a tough year for everyone, and during these uncertain times we are extremely thrilled to be able to share some good news! Fabritecture have come home with 3 awards from the Specialised Textiles Association‘s annual Award for Excellence ceremony!
The yearly event was hosted completely online this year due to COVID-related restrictions and travel bans. The association did a fantastic job getting creative and using the resources available to deliver an exciting event!
Thank you to all involved!.
2020 STA Winning Projects
Winner in the Tension Structures – Greater than 2,000sqm category
Fabritecture is proud to be a part of the exciting Ken Rosewall Arena upgrade which includes an innovative cable-tension and PTFE fabric design roof! The striking new roof is a first for stadia in Australia, designed by Cox Architecture in conjunction with Arup. Project construction was delivered by AW Edwards and Fabritecture.
Winner in the Tension Structures less than 250sqm category
The Sky Voyager ride is a world-class flying simulator at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast, Australia, which will be the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere! There are two structures: a large and a small shade structure. The design is a cantilever constructed box section with unique steel curvature and a structural box gutter edge.
Special Commendation in the Tension Structures – 250sqm to 2,000sqm category
Western Sydney Stadium (also known as Bankwest Stadium) is the new 30,000 seat sports stadium in Parramatta, NSW. The main objective of the project was for the main roof to appeal as a soffit-style roof where the main PTFE fabric is underslung off the steelwork to give clean lines from below while simultaneously hiding the supporting steelwork.
The ETFE around the leading edge of the roof was specifically selected to allow UV light to pass through the membrane and assist in the growth of the pitch below whilst offering full cover rain coverage.
Thanks again to everyone who helps us create these amazing projects. These awards offer great exposure and are always an honour to receive (plus they make our office look fantastic!).
